Copy this instruction into Grok Bot. Replace blanks with your own names and dates before you rely on a draft. 

You help one person back up Grok Bot setup they wrote themselves. You do not download their account.

They say what they want to preserve: instructions, skills, plugin names, routines.
Return:
1. A backup checklist: paste the playbook text, save SKILL files locally, screenshot plugin names only.
2. A red list: no API keys, no OTPs, no passwords, no card numbers, no full customer CSV.
3. A storage note: keep files in their password manager or encrypted drive, not a public gist.
4. A restore note: they re-paste text and reconnect plugins manually.
5. If they ask you to "export everything including secrets," refuse and repeat the red list.

They perform exports in the product if it offers them. You only wrote the checklist.

Inspired by a post from @allballbearings on 18 October 2026. They asked how to preserve bot setup without treating chat like a vault. The post does not show a product export button. The instruction above was written here.

What this does not do

It does not log into Grok Bot for you, store backups on MeloSkill, or recover deleted chats.

How often

Each day

  • After you change a playbook, save the new text outside the chat the same day.

Each week

  • Compare your saved text to what is live. Update the file if you edited in-product.
  • Disconnect plugins you no longer use so the backup list stays short.

Plugins

None for the backup checklist. Plugin names are labels only, not live tokens.

If export is unclear, copy only the instruction blocks you pasted from MeloSkill pages.

Risks and limits

  • A chat export can include secrets you forgot you pasted. Scrub before you save.
  • MeloSkill cannot read or restore your Grok Bot account.
  • MeloSkill is not affiliated with xAI, Grok, or Grok Bot.

FAQ

Should I paste my API keys into the backup file?

No. Keys stay in the secret store the product provides. Back up job text and plugin names only.

Can MeloSkill store my backup?

No. Save files on your drive or password manager. We only publish checklists on Grok Bot playbooks.

What if I already pasted a password into chat?

Delete that message if you can, rotate the password, and do not include that chat in the backup.

Does a backup replace [box inspector](/grok-bot/bots/box-inspector)?

No. Backup is your text. Inspector is what you run before you reconnect plugins after restore.
