Motion

Motion skills for Claude, Cursor, Codex, and Grok Bot

Pick a motion file by the job: write a web animation, keep Expo motion on the UI thread, set timing before code, use GSAP when that is already the stack, or review animation that already exists. The same SKILL.md can be pasted into Grok Bot or attached in that chat. Grok Bot instructions: Grok Bot playbooks.

Skill When to use it Platform Updated Safety
Animate
emilkowalski/skills
Default when you asked to animate something on the web: a component, a transition, or motion that has to survive a strict review. Any agent 2026-11-02 pass
Expo Animation
expo/skills
When the animation is in an Expo or React Native app: press feedback, sheets, gestures, or screen motion that has to hold up on a device. Any agent 2026-10-28 pass
Review Animations
emilkowalski/skills
When the motion is already in the diff and you want it reviewed against a craft bar, not rewritten from a blank file. Any agent 2026-11-02 pass
Motion Design
LottieFiles/motion-design-skill
When the gap is motion direction — timing, easing, personality, and choreography — before you pick CSS, Motion, GSAP, or Lottie. Any agent 2026-03-12 pass
GSAP Core
greensock/gsap-skills
When the project already uses GSAP, or you need timelines, scroll-linked motion, or framework-agnostic tweens rather than CSS or Motion. Any agent 2026-03-09 pass

Safety is a text search on the file, not an audit. Pass / Review / Risk are explained in the evaluation guide.

  1. 01

    Animate

Emil Kowalski’s construction file for web animation. It writes the implementation: whether to animate at all, which CSS or Motion tool, which properties, curve, and duration. Use it when the job is to build the motion. It is not the React Native file, and it is not a review of animation that already exists.

  2. 02

    Expo Animation

The Expo / React Native counterpart, written with Emil Kowalski. It keeps motion on the UI thread (Reanimated, gestures, haptics) and tells the agent to use `animate` for web. Install it for native surfaces, not for a CSS dropdown on the web.

  3. 03

    Review Animations

A review file for motion that already shipped in the diff. It flags easing, duration, transform origin, interruptibility, and GPU-friendly properties. Use it to critique existing animation. It does not write a new transition, and it is not a whole-repo motion audit.

  4. 04

    Motion Design

LottieFiles’ direction brief: intent and choreography first, then duration and easing tables. Use it when you need a director pass before implementation. It is not a GSAP or Reanimated cookbook, and it is not Emil’s construction sequence.

  5. 05

    GSAP Core

GreenSock’s official core GSAP skill: tweens, eases, staggers, and when GSAP beats CSS. Use it when the stack is already GSAP or the motion needs timelines and scroll hooks. It is not the file that decides whether a control should animate at all, and it is not the Expo file.

FAQ

Which skill should I install first?

Start with animate for a web UI animation you are about to write. Use expo-animation when the surface is React Native / Expo. Use gsap-core when the stack is already GSAP. Use motion-design when the gap is timing, easing, and choreography before code. Use review-animations when the motion already exists and you want it reviewed.

Is this a replacement for an MCP server?

No. These files are instructions the agent loads for motion work. They do not connect to After Effects, Lottie hosts, or a design tool API.

Where is Remotion?

Programmatic Remotion video is a separate short list: the Remotion task (create, markup, render). remotion-best-practices is the official router and stays in the index. Do not install those files for a product UI animation.

What about whole-repo audits or naming lookups?

improve-animations, find-animation-opportunities, and animation-vocabulary stay in the index. They are useful files, but they are not rows on this short comparison list.

Can I use this with Grok Bot?

Yes. Paste the SKILL.md into Grok Bot or attach the file, then ask for the same job this page describes. MeloSkill is not affiliated with xAI. Grok Bot instructions: Grok Bot playbooks.
