Taste

Taste skill for coding agents

This page compares taste-oriented agent skills for landings, portfolios, and redesigns that should not read as generic AI templates. Start with taste-skill, read the overlapping playbooks in the table, then install from the listing or paste the SKILL.md and ask for that job. For a broader blank-page UI brief, use frontend-design on the frontend design task. Install paths: how to install.

How an agent uses this

Install taste-skill when the job is a landing, portfolio, or redesign that must not look templated. Ask the agent to state a one-line design read before it writes code. For a broader blank-page brief, use the frontend design task instead. Skip this file for dashboards and dense product UI. Cursor / Claude paths: install guide.

Default file: Design Taste Frontend. Read the SKILL.md on that page before you install.

    Design Taste Frontend

A taste playbook against generic AI UI for landings, portfolios, and redesigns. Prefer it when taste is the actual job, not when you need a whole product design system. It overlaps frontend-design; pick this one when “look designed” is the brief. Skip dashboards and dense product UI.

  2. 02

    Top Design

Wondel’s award-site playbook: type as architecture, scroll choreography, and a 10/10 scoring rubric. Use it when the bar is cinematic marketing craft. Skip it for dense product UI — wrong density and motion budget. Heavier than taste-skill; do not stack both as defaults.

    Frontend Design

Anthropic’s broader frontend brief, including type and color, not only “taste” as a slogan. Default when you want one general UI file. It is less of a dedicated art-direction playbook than taste-skill or top-design. Compare the full blank-page set on the Frontend design task.

  4. 04

    Impeccable

A craft pass on work that already exists. Install after a first render, not as the file that invents the aesthetic. Distinct from taste-skill, which is for new pages and look-and-feel.

    Emil Design Engineering

Interaction and motion craft, not a new brand. Use it when the visual direction is fine and the gap is how the UI moves. Skip it as a taste substitute.

FAQ

Is taste the same as frontend-design?

They overlap. frontend-design is Anthropic’s general UI brief for a page that does not exist yet. taste-skill is a dedicated taste playbook against generic AI UI for landings and redesigns. top-design is the Awwwards-level landing brief. impeccable is a craft pass on work that already exists. Full blank-page short list: frontend design task.

Which taste file should I install first in Cursor or Claude Code?

Start with taste-skill when “look designed” is the job. Use top-design only when the bar is cinematic marketing craft. Keep frontend-design if you want one broader UI file instead of a taste playbook. Copy the listing command, or follow how to install for Claude Code, Cursor, and Codex.

Can I install all of them?

You can. Agents then compete on trigger descriptions. Prefer one taste file plus a component skill, not four overlapping taste files. Read taste-skill before you stack more.

What is different when I open the files?

taste-skill centers on art direction and escaping templated AI UI. top-design adds scroll storytelling and an award-site bar. frontend-design stays general (type, color, motion) without a dedicated taste rubric. impeccable assumes the interface already exists. Read each listing’s SKILL.md — the YAML description is what the agent matches on.

The landing still looks templated after the agent ships — what next?

Keep one taste file (taste-skill), paste the prompt under How an agent uses this, and ask for a one-line design read before code. If you need a meticulous second pass on work that already exists, switch to impeccable. For a broader blank-page brief, use the frontend design task instead of stacking another taste playbook.

Does a high star count mean better taste?

No. Stars are repository-level. Read the SKILL.md.

Can I use this with Grok Bot?

Yes. Paste the SKILL.md into Grok Bot or attach the file, then ask for the same job this page describes. MeloSkill is not affiliated with xAI. Grok Bot instructions: Grok Bot playbooks.
